My Artist Statement

When I take pictures I look for emotion and a sense of kinship to the subject. I capture a variety of subjects but all in a style that highlights feeling. I photograph people living on our streets, surfers in their own place of tranquility and people taking political action for what they believe. What draws me to these subjects is raw emotion, the stark difference between despair, ecstasy, and scorn. I love to explore the disparities of Los Angeles, a city torn by polarities. The sense of isolation that many so clearly avoid is where I find my own artistic serenity. I want my work to show the viewer a perspective of compassion and unwavering honesty. Contrast in my black and white work expresses the contrast often overlooked in our world: rich and poor, love and hate, and ease and strife.
